James was appointed Head of the Immigration Department in 2010.  He is a highly experienced advocate and has been practising Asylum and Immigration Law for over 10 years.  He graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Durham.  He studied International Human Rights Law at the University of Liverpool before completing his Bar Vocational Course in Manchester.

He was a Counsellor at the Immigration Advisory Service until 2006 when he joined AS Law Solicitors.  He joined Jackson & Canter in 2009 following its merger with AS Law.

He is an accredited Senior Caseworker and Supervisor.  James has successful experience of conducting cases from the Tribunal to the Supreme Court.
