Michael Sandys / Partner
Michael Sandys (Partner) is qualified as both a barrister and solicitor. He has some 15 years experience having during a part of that time worked both in-house at Marconi (previously GPT Ltd) and Meredith Jones (cotton traders) both historically based in Liverpool and in private practice. He went on to spend almost 10 years in Manchester firstly at Halliwells and then Cobbetts undertaking contentious and non-contentious Intellectual Property (IP), Commercial and Corporate work. He later acquired experience in Defamation having acted for the MEN and various indivuduals from 2000 onwards.
He has been involved in a number of reported IP cases including 20th Century Fox v Newzbin (2010) and also his most recent Defamation success of Jan Cambridge v Dr Makin (2010). He has taken on the BBC and the Mail on Sunday in libel actions with success and has also been to the Court of Appeal in the reported case on Commercial Agency (Mercantile International v Chuan Soon Huat).
He is a Commercial/ Corporate lawyer with particular specialisms in Intellectual Property and Media and Defamation (including advising on reputation management and privacy). He is also able to advise on all types of contracts and commercial arrangements and has both corporate / commercial non-contentious experience as well as dealing with certain types of commercial disputes.
