Liverpool City Council set to undertake a review of care packages following recent budget cuts

Following recent budget cuts, Liverpool City Council are about to undertake a widespread reassessment of people's care needs.

Local authorities provide community care services according to different levels of need – low, moderate, substantial or critical. This is often referred to as the FACS (Fair Access to Care Services) criteria.

Liverpool City Council until recently provided care to people who had needs which were classified as moderate or above. However, following budget cuts they now only provide care to people within the substantial and critical bandings.

Cuts to care packages can only be made following a full and proper review or reassessment of needs and we understand that Liverpool social services are currently arranging these re-assessments.

Re-assessments may result in changes to existing care packages or packages being withdrawn completely.

Many people will understandably be very worried about this potential change in the care that they receive however it is important to remember that, depending on your particular situation, you may be able to challenge the changes.

If your care package is due to be reviewed or you are concerned about any aspect of your care or that of a family member then the Community Care department at QualitySolicitors Jackson & Canter can offer expert advice on your options.
