Accidents which occur when you are a visitor to public places
Accidents can occur in every aspect of public life such as when out shopping, visiting a park, playground, supermarket, offices, the cinema, when walking through a car park, museum, church, school or private property/land or participating in leisure activities at sports centres, schools, youth clubs and churches.
Accidents can occur in any number of ways and we have successfully pursued claims for damages for clients who have been injured from slipping on wet floors, been hit by falling objects, sustained cuts on sharp edges, slipped on worn carpets, tripped over items left in walkways, sustained electric shock and many other preventable accidents. See our news section for more examples.
The Law
The Occupiers Liability Act 1957 provides that owners of such premises or land have a duty to exercise reasonable care for your safety whilst a lawful visitor.
Evidence to support your claim
Whenever an accident occurs you should ensure that it is reported to the manager of any premises and complete the accident book with a full and accurate description of what has occurred.
Where possible take photographs of whatever has caused your accident and the details of anyone who was a witness to it. As soon as you are able, it is useful to sketch a diagram of the scene of the accident.
