Toxic Mould Exposure

Toxic mould has made its way into a quarter of British homes, according to a forthcoming study. Mould spores can be so small that they can easily be breathed deeply into the lungs. Mould exposure has been linked to cold like symptoms, watery eyes, coughs, sore throats, upper respiratory tract problems, allergies, skin irritation, headaches and dizziness.

Identifying Toxic Mould
‘Stachybotrys chartarum is a greenish-black mold. It can grow on material with a high cellulose and low nitrogen content, such as fiberboard, gypsum board, paper, dust, and lint. Growth occurs when there is moisture from water damage, excessive humidity, water leaks, condensation, water infiltration, or flooding.
Toxic mould is usually slimy because of the wet layer on the top, although it can sometimes appear dry and powdery if it dries from lack of a moisture source. Several other indoor moulds can look similar to Toxic Mould.

Mould Testing
Mould spore testing can be performed to find out if there is a problem in your home, and air tests can be measured to see whether you have an unhealthy level of spores in your home.
