Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Death
The Telegraph last week reported about an ongoing inquest into the death of a 29 year old mother last year. The young mother had given birth to her second child just 16 days before she passed away as a result of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).
The inquest has heard how she had been suspected of suffering from DVT after her first pregnancy. This is not uncommon, as women are more prone to this condition when they are pregnant. It was therefore a big concern for her and her husband following the birth of her second child in March 2010.
It has been revealed that in the 16 days subsequent to giving birth for the second time, the young mother was seen by four midwives, a hospital doctor, a GP and a trainee GP. She presented with pain and swelling in her calf which is a known symptom of DVT. If left untreated, DVT can cause a Pulmonary Embolism (PE) which can be fatal. The inquest has heard that this is exactly what happened to the young mother.
Here at Quality Solicitors Oliver & Co, our medical negligence solicitors have experience in dealing with cases that involve circumstances where doctors/ GPs have failed to diagnose serious illnesses. We are currently investigating a claim that revolves around the failure of a GP to diagnose DVT in our client. The DVT subsequently caused a PE and our client was very poorly for some time. The effects of the GP’s failure to diagnose DVT still have a huge impact on our client’s life, even a few years after it happened. The GP in our claim has admitted that he acted negligently for failing to diagnose and treat the DVT.
