Accidents In Public Places

Accidents in public places are very common and can happen in a variety of different ways.

Fortunately the law protects you from being injured in a public place and requires a local authority, private land owner or occupier to have proper regard for the safety of people who may use their premises or land.

If the accident was in a building open to the public such as a supermarket, restaurant or hotel then your claim for personal injury would be settled by the occupier's public liability insurance policy providing the accident was the occupier's fault.

If your accident was on a council owned property such as a public pavement, then we would help you to make a claim against the local authority if the accident was due to their negligence.

To make a successful personal injury compensation claim, you would need to prove that another person was responsible for your personal injury (in this case, the owner of the property where your accident happened).

It is important that if you are injured in a public place you ensure that the owner is notified and you record the circumstances and details of the injuries you have suffered in their Accident Book. If it is possible to do so, take the names and addresses of witnesses and photographs of the area where the accident happened.
