January divorce update

Research reveals the festive triggers that have landed South East couples in January divorce courts.

New research reveals that 33% couples in the South East area admitted that this past Christmas was either going to make or break their marriage. The survey, which questioned married people ahead of the Christmas countdown, found that 33% of couples in the South East say they were giving their marriage ‘one last go’ over the festive period.

One in five (20%) in the South East were worried about the extra pressure that Christmas would place on their marriage, with 13% believing that this Christmas would be their last as a married couple. Of those who expected to start 2015 with a trip to the divorce courts, 33% of couples in the South East had already agreed to give their children their best ever Christmas before starting proceedings.

The research also showed 38% of people considering divorce would feel more comfortable if some of the process could be carried out online. Similarly, cost was a primary concern for 10% of people in the South East, whilst a further 14% of people said the prospect of going to a solicitor’s office to discuss divorce made them really nervous.
