QualitySolicitors Acklam Bond mark the Children’s charity 150th anniversary by committing to provide professional Wills at no cost to the customers aged 55 and over throughout October.
Founded in Victorian London in 1866, last year Barnardo’s worked with more than 248,000 children, young people and their families, running 996 essential services all focused on the care of young people across the UK. Just last week, Barnardo’s launched its new campaign entitled ‘Believe In Me’ and outlined its strategy to support an increasing number of children and young people over the next decade.
Now it it’s fourth successive year, Will Month 2016 takes place throughout October and will aim to raise awareness of the importance of having your affairs in order in the event of an untimely death. QualitySolicitors customer research has shown that 70% of UK adults aged over 50 are currently without a valid last Will and Testament.
If someone passes away in a state of intestacy (having not made a Will), the distribution of assets is currently decided under UK law. This can lead to disagreements amongst remaining family members, who may have varying interpretations of the deceased’s final wishes. Will Month 2016 will aim to help families across the country to avoid such upset.
For one month, starting from Friday 30th September and running until Monday 31st October, QualitySolicitors Acklam Bond will dedicate time to consumers across East Lancashire looking to revisit their Wills or draw up a Will for the first time. As such a crucial area of family law, QualitySolicitors Acklam Bond have agreed to provide this time free of charge to customers aged 55 and over, in the hope this will raise awareness of the importance of arranging your affairs.
As QualitySolicitors’ official charity partner since 2010, it is hoped that those in East Lancashire taking up the offer will consider remembering Barnardo’s alongside their family and friends when they arrange their affairs. Barnardo’s benefit hugely from legacy donations each each year and every gift left to Barnardo’s contributes directly to creating a better future for a child in the UK.
As part of Will Month 2016, Barnardo’s will run a series of awareness raising sessions, highlighting how critical such donations are to the charity’s ongoing ability to provide a range of essential services to vulnerable children. These sessions will take place in partnership with QS firms in Sheffield, Chelmsford, Leicester, Weybridge & Taunton.
Since 2010, a number of QualitySolicitors firms have undertaken physical tasks and challenges to raise money and awareness for Barnardo’s. Just this summer, Frank Lissimore a managing partner from Crystal Palace, dubbed the ‘biking barrister’, travelled the length and breadth of England on his motorbike in five days, raising over £9,000 for Barnardo’s. Similarly, the team at Acklam Bond tackled the Three Peaks twice this year and raised over £1000 for Barnardo's.
David Acklam, Senior Director of QualitySolicitors Acklam Bond, comments, ‘ Everyone at QualitySolicitors Acklam Bond is fully behind Will Month 2016. QualitySolicitors have been working with Barnardo’s for six years and October is always a really important month to raise awareness of the importance of having a Will across East Lancashire. We hope Will Month 2016 will enable us to help a number of people in East Lancashire take the first steps in arranging their affairs, whilst also securing a number of legacy donations for Barnardo’s that will help them to continue to provide the invaluable services they offer to vulnerable children across the UK.’
Dylan Carroll, Senior Relationships Manager from Barnardo’s, explains, ‘We are extremely proud of our six year partnership with QualitySolicitors. We are thankful for their contribution to support Barnardo’s work. The partnership offers participants the security of a professionally drafted Will at no cost and the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy, alongside loved ones to a vital cause. Everyone that remembers Barnardo’s in their Wills during Will Month this October and beyond, will leave a vulnerable child someone to turn to in the future.’
