HMO Licence changes

Do you have a property in Lewisham?  Do you need an HMO licence under the new rules?

If you own a multi-let property in Lewisham, you need to know that the rules surrounding houses in multiple occupation (HMO) licences are changing from 23rd September 2016.

Under new rules, landlords now need to get a new licence for properties that meet all of the following criteria:

  • Are above a shop or business
  • Have facilities (such as a bathroom or kitchen) which are shared by people from different families – this is called a house in multiple occupation (HMO)
  • Are in the borough of Lewisham.

This is in addition to the existing mandatory HMO licencing requirements.
