The Party Wall Act 1996 imposes requirements concerning certain works in connection with party walls, boundary walls and excavations near neighbouring buildings. Although Party Wall Act requirements are statutory and should protect parties, they are separate from planning and building regulation requirements. Non-compliance with Party Wall Act requirements can have significant repercussions.
We offer specialist assistance and expertise dealing with all legal matters associated with Party Wall Act works. We act for the proposer of the works or a neighbouring owner/occupier, this includes compliance with the relevant requirements and specifically:
- Serving or responding to Party Wall Act notices
- Advising on and assisting with disputes or potential disputes
- Advising and helping clients to obtain appropriate remedies available for any breach of the Party Wall Act
We work closely with Party Wall Act surveyors and try to ensure clients’ interests are sufficiently protected. We encourage anyone who intends to carry out building works or excavation, or whose neighbours are intending to or are carrying out such works, to contact us without delay for appropriate advice.
