2020 is going to be a year of change for many Landlords with new legislation coming into effect covering everything from tenancy fees to energy efficiency. A very quick guide to some of the changes that may affect you are as follows:
The Court rules put in place to govern Possession hearings have been amended with immediate effect from the 27th of March 2020. They will postpone all Possession Proceedings and all proceedings seeking to enforce an Order for Possession for a period of 90 days.
What does this mean? This means that Landlords will not be able to evict tenants, with the exception of injunctive proceedings in emergency cases. Whilst this of course provides important protection for tenants, it does create a difficult situation for Landlords, especially where large amounts of rent arrears are due and subsequently accruing.
I’m a Landlord, what should I do? If you are a Landlord and you would like to discuss this subject in any further detail please do not hesitate to contact either Lauren Chambers, Kayleigh Dowty or Sarah Rebello on 01323 875050 or email email@example.com .
