Local businesses were invited to organise a golf team for £120 and sponsor a tee box at £60 to raise as much money as possible for Pancreatic Cancer, at Elsham Hall Golf Club on 29 May 2015.
Since Partners, Robert Taylor and Ian Horner, of QualitySolicitors Bradbury Roberts & Raby are both keen golfers, they rose to the challenge.
With tee times from 8.45am to 3.15pm, the weather wasn’t exactly kind. Players endured very heavy rain and even hail in the afternoon, as the sun only appeared late in the day. But the determined teams kept the competitive spirit going and turned the 18-hole golf course into a sea of purple, wearing purple shirts to honour the charity.
Prizes giving took place at 7.30pm, with first prize going to Mark Foster and his team from Golf for 4 at Prestbury Golf Club with 85 points. Players also enjoyed a two course meal, a raffle and an auction to win a mini iPad.
Despite not winning any accolades, the competition and fundraising were the driving factors for QualitySolicitors Bradbury Roberts & Raby, as Partner and Head of the Conveyancing and Probate departments, Robert Taylor commented:
“As a golf enthusiast I always say that outside of work my hobbies are golf, golf and more golf! So this was a great way of raising income for a really important cause and having fun at the same time. The atmosphere was fantastic and on behalf of QualitySolicitors Bradbury Roberts & Raby, I’d like to thank the organiser John Womersley and Elsham Hall Golf club for putting on such an exceptional event.”
Ian Horner, Partner and Head of the firm’s Employment Law and Personal Injury departments added:
“As a business that’s been established over 30 years we always try to support charitable causes and local community activities whenever we can. I thoroughly enjoyed the event and I’m extremely proud that we were able to raise such an incredible amount of money for Pancreatic Cancer in just one day, which just shows what a great idea this was.”
Event Organiser, John Womersley, concluded:
“A massive thank you to all the teams that entered, all the players (who endured some awful weather), all the sponsors, providers of team prizes and raffle prizes and donators. A final thanks to Mike Searle, all the helpers who brought in teams and prizes, all the helpers on the day and the staff at Elsham Golf Club.”
