Charity Partnership Hits the £10m Pledge Mark

Clients of the legal network QualitySolicitors have pledged £10m to help vulnerable children supported by Barnardo’s thanks to the success of an innovative charity partnership.

Clients of the legal network QualitySolicitors have pledged £10m to help vulnerable children supported by Barnardo’s thanks to the success of an innovative charity partnership.

Five years ago, Barnardo’s joined forces with QualitySolicitors, which has branches up and down the country, to offer a Will writing service for those aged 55 years and over.

By offering this service, Barnardo’s hopes that people will consider leaving a gift in their Will now, to support the charity’s work in the future. Since the scheme was launched, just under 3,000 people have participated and made a commitment to leave a lasting legacy in their Will to the children’s charity.

Nearly half of Barnardo’s income from the public is from gifts left to the charity in Wills from generous supporters.

Barnardo’s Gifts in Wills Manager, Dylan Carroll, said: "It’s amazing for our partnership with QualitySolicitors to have hit the £10m mark, we’re so grateful to those who have made a commitment to the children, young people and families that we work with. Gifts left in Wills are our lifeblood and by remembering Barnardo’s alongside family and friends, our supporters are helping to ensure now, that vulnerable children and young people who we work with will have someone to turn to in the future. Everyone who participates in the scheme and remembers Barnardo’s with a legacy, large or small, will contribute to the transformation of the lives of those we work with. We are so grateful.

"The team at QualitySolicitors have been incredibly supportive of Barnardo’s work. As well as promoting our charity through the course of their work, they’ve thrown themselves into fundraising and learning about Barnardo’s work so they can discuss this with clients and explain how donations can change the lives of Barnardo’s beneficiaries."

Victoria Norman, Associate Solicitor in the Wills & Probate Department for Scunthorpe-based, QualitySolicitors Bradbury Roberts & Raby, commented: "It’s been heartwarming to see so many positive responses to our Barnardo’s fundraising activities from generous clients – we wrote 7 Wills in last October’s Will month alone! As a member firm of the QualitySolicitors network we’re keen to support the charity’s projects whenever we can – and we have some exciting plans lined up for 2016, so watch this space!

Claire Smith, Business Development Director at QualitySolicitors said: "We’re delighted to be playing such a major part in this wonderful forward-thinking service, and we’re so proud that pledges have now gone past £10 million. Our firms are always delighted to offer support to the many initiatives that the partnership undertakes and what better way is there to promote the benefits of making a Will?"

Throughout the five-year partnership, QualitySolicitors have run a series of promotional events up and down the country to raise awareness of the impact of legacies on Barnardo’s work, including a sponsored Distance Challenge – which led to the Olympic gold medallist Daley Thompson CBE supporting and hosting a day at his Putney gym for top performers – a number of ‘Wear Green to Work’ days in recognition of Barnardo’s branding colour, and various themed baking competitions.

Donations in Wills change lives. Your support could help Barnardo’s in the following ways:

 £5,000 could pay for a trip away for 20 young carers

 £7,000 could cover the cost of a six-month intensive programme to divert a young offender from crime.
