Kate Austen

Consultant Solicitor

Kate joined Dunn & Baker Solicitors in August 2021 as a Locum Solicitor within the Dispute Resolution Department and became a Consultant Solicitor in January 2023.

Kate read law at the University of Huddersfield, during which time she completed a term at a German University where she studied German Law. Kate obtained her degree in 2007, completed her Bar Vocational Course at Manchester Metropolitan in 2008 and was called the bar later that year. Furthermore, in 2011, Kate completed the BPP Qualify Lawyers Transfer Test and transferred to the Bar of England and Wales.

Kate’s legal career began in a regional law firm in 2008 where she assisted in litigious matters, with a focus on Landlord and Tenant Law, and Dispute Resolution. Since then, Kate has worked in a number of firms and has built up a wealth of knowledge and experience in providing clients with legal advice, assisting them in preliminary legal steps and issuing court proceedings when necessary.

Kate has a broad range of experience and has worked on a variety of cases, including Housing Act breaches, challenging local District Councils, breaches of tenancy agreements, debt recovery, professional negligence claims and disputes within businesses (e.g. between partners, shareholders and directors).

Kate believes that each client’s individual case is important and tries to adopt an approach where matters are resolved, rather than litigated.
