My husband has the patience of a saint when it comes to helping our daughter to get ready for school. Unfortunately, as  I have now discovered… I haven’t.

It’s not just the, “I look like a boy in these trousers” or “these tights are too uncomfortable”, it’s the sheer time and effort taken to get it all done.  Getting up at 6.00am to leave the house at 8.30am was simply not enough time!  How do parents with more than one child cope?

Then it’s the dicing with death that is trying to park fairly near the school whilst 600 people are trying to do the same.  I just feel for the lollipop man – what a trooper.

Then it’s the getting soaked waiting for the gates to open, or getting over-heated doing the same. What was happening to the weather this week? Then it’s remembering the costume for the children’s parade on Saturday and the teddy bear for the disco today.

The highlight though was the park in the sunshine after school with a picnic blanket with other like-minded mums eating chocolate and crisps whilst the kids played. That’s when I envied my husband a lot.

It’s back to the normal routine next week thank God. I dare say my daughter is breathing a sigh of relief as well.
