I joined QualitySolicitors Knight Polson in its Dispute Resolution Department in June 2017, having qualified as a solicitor in May 2016. Prior to this, I completed my training with two separate law firms based in the Somerset and Dorset regions.
I work within dispute resolution generally, although my particular specialism is in employment law. I have experience of handling matters for individual clients as well as for small-to-medium-sized commercial bodies.
I appreciate the concerns that employees are likely to have in raising employment issues with their employers. My aim in advising employees is to offer both legal and practical advice to support and guide them through what can be a difficult period, both professionally and personally. I recognise the concerns that many employees have in seeking legal advice, particularly from a financial point of view, and I aim, as far as possible, to provide practical signposts and advice to employees as to how to fund any potential or existing claims. I have also gained extensive experience in advising on settling claims where settlement can be achieved avoiding the need to litigate.
Having acted for different organisations, I have gained experience in assisting employers with various HR issues, ranging from advising on and drafting contracts of employment and staff handbooks, to grievance and disciplinary procedures and settlement agreements and exit procedures, including for senior employees and directors. This has also involved advising both employers and employees on the effects of TUPE. I also have experience of advising on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) particularly from an Employment Law perspective.
I am a member of the Employment Lawyers Association, which assists me in remaining connected within an area of law that is both fast-moving and challenging.
As part of my wider role, I also assist with general dispute resolution cases. I have advised landlords and tenants in respect of eviction processes, as well as advising on NHS Continuing Healthcare Claims, general contractual disputes, partnership disputes and contested probate matters.
In my spare time, I enjoy exploring both new and familiar places. I like disappearing off on long, rambling walks especially as I am an avid supporter of the National Trust. I also enjoy reading and writing, together with watching a wide selection of films (there’s just too many to name a favourite!).
