Community treatment

A Community Treatment Order (CTO) is used by healthcare professionals to ensure that mental health patients who have been detained in hospital under s3 of the Mental Health Act receive the treatment they need once they have returned home.

There is a lot of discussion at present about just how much treatment can be delivered under a Community Treatment Order with someone’s consent – and how much can be imposed. This is important because a Community Treatment Order carries the possibility of being recalled to hospital, and the use of this power is often misunderstood. If you or a loved one has received a Community Treatment Order, we can help you understand what it means and explain what you need to do next.

If you wish to appeal against a Community Treatment Order we can help you to appeal to a mental health tribunal. There may be ways in which we can help to ensure that your views are taken into consideration when planning your treatment.

We understand that talking about health issues isn’t always easy but our friendly solicitors will put you at ease and are here to answer any questions you may have.
