I am a Senior Legal Adviser in the Court of Protection team at Moore & Tibbits, joining in 2021. I have over 18 years’ experience providing clients with advice in relation to Court of Protection matters as well as Lasting Powers of Attorney and estate administration. I am also an Associate Member of the Institute of Legal Executives.
The Court of Protection protects the rights of people who are unable to make decisions which may relate to property and financial matters or health and welfare issues. Often when people are unable to make decisions for themselves, through illness or incapacity, it is necessary to make an application to the Court of Protection so that someone else can obtain permission to make those decisions. The most common applications to the Court of Protection are those seeking to appoint a Deputy to manage someone’s property and financial affairs and I deal with the formalities of making these applications.
Although Court of Protection applications can take many months, my vast experience in this area ensures every i is dotted and t is crossed to minimise any possible delays.
We have a significant number of longstanding clients whose financial affairs are managed under either a Lasting Power of Attorney or a Court of Protection Deputyship Order. I am responsible for the daily management of the client funds and will work closely alongside various professionals such as social workers, GP’s and Care Managers ensuring vulnerable people who do not have capacity are able to live in their home and maintain their independence for as long as possible and are provided with the appropriate level of support in respect of all aspects of daily living.
For many years I have been providing support and advice to elderly and vulnerable clients and their families and I always strive to ensure that a person’s dignity and rights are at all times respected. I take time to understand and get to know my clients, their wishes and feelings to enable them to participate as far as possible in decisions concerning their lives.
I provide clear, transparent, understandable advice in relation to Gift applications, Trustee application and also Statutory Will applications which is tailored to an individual’s needs.
I am also proud to be an Associate Member of the Solicitors for the Elderly association. This organisation is made up of members who have a wealth of experience and training in older client law. Not only are the mental and physical difficulties which can affect older and vulnerable people considered but I am also aware of the health and social problems that people may face and can put people at ease when dealing with often complex, life changing issues.
When a loved one dies, it is understandably an extremely emotional time and can be stressful for families dealing with paperwork and formalities. Sometimes people require help with Grant only applications, full administration or a bespoke estate administration service tailored to their circumstances.
