IT assistant James, paralegal Nazia and colleagues at QualitySolicitors Parkinson Wright, raised £315.46 for the children’s charity through the summer challenge, which involved teams from the legal network travelling the total distance between each of its UK branches, unaided by motors.
The Parkinson Wright team covered 1,724 miles, helping the QualitySolicitors network to smash its target by walking, running, swimming and cycling more than 3,800 miles and raising a combined total of £6,250.
To say thank you for their hard work, Barnardo’s arranged for team members from around the UK to take part in a training session with Barnardo’s Events Challenge Patron, Daley Thompson, in London on September 9.
Daley said: “It’s fantastic that the QualitySolicitors teams covered such a huge distance and raised so much money for Barnardo’s at the same time.
“They clearly aren’t afraid to put in the effort, which is why I had no worries about testing their limits in training. It was a really positive workout and I hope I’ve inspired them to continue striving on behalf of our most vulnerable children and young people.”
QualitySolicitors Parkinson Wright offer a will-writing service to anyone aged over 55 who may wish to donate money to Barnardo’s after they die. There is no obligation, and those who do choose to leave a gift in their will can commit as much or as little as they would like.
Dylan Carroll, spokesperson for Barnardo’s Gifts in Wills team, said:
“The will-writing experts at QualitySolicitors do a brilliant job of helping people consider supporting Barnardo’s. To do that every day and to take part in this amazing distance challenge at the same time deserves gold medals all round.
“We are so grateful for every gift we receive, big or small. It all helps Barnardo’s to transform the lives of children facing a range of challenges, from the horrors of abuse to caring for a sick or disabled loved one.”
Nazia Riaz says: “We were put through a fairly gruelling 2 hour gym session by Olympic Gold medallist Daley Thompson, a much loved athlete and his assistant Gavin Sunshine who has also competed for Great Britain. It was, however, great fun and very exciting to meet such an iconic figure and get a taste of how a world renowned and much loved athlete trains.”
James adds, "Taking part in a 2 hour personal training session with double Olympic Gold medallist Daley Thompson was both exhilarating and excruciating. Using Daley’s trusted techniques in the gym he designed to replicate the one he used at school was an incredible experience and thoroughly enjoyed by all. I am a keen cyclist and particularly enjoyed the spinning session led by Daley’s assistant, Gavin, who also took great pleasure in putting us through our paces. By the end I was completely exhausted but being able to take on board what such a great sportsman and public figure was able to show us was totally worth it and, as the saying goes, “no pain....no gain” and I certainly felt a lot of gains over the following few days!"
