QualitySolicitors Davisons launch bowel cancer fundraising campaign

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and the second biggest killer. Around 268,000 people in the UK are living with bowel cancer; someone is diagnosed every 15 minutes. QualitySolicitors Davisons has launched a fundraising campaign for Bowel Cancer UK and Beating Bowel Cancer to help raise awareness and help change these figures.

Director at QualitySolicitors Davisons, Darryl Wilkes is spearheading the year-long fundraising campaign as a show of support for the community and his father, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in June 2017.

“Bowel Cancer UK and Beating Bowel Cancer are charities close to my heart, having seen my father receive a diagnosis, go through lots of treatments and more recently an operation at the end of 2017 from which he’s thankfully recovering,” Mr Wilkes said, adding “As a son I wanted to do something to show solidarity, and as business director I’m always looking for ways QualitySolicitors Davisons can support worthwhile work in the community.

“My father challenged me to do something difficult to underpin the fundraising efforts of Bowel Cancer UK and Beating Bowel Cancer and I am certain he could not have picked anything more difficult! The charities are determined to save lives, improve the quality of life and support all those affected by bowel cancer. They enable and fund research, provide information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.”

Mr Wilkes has entered Ironman Wales, one of the most notoriously difficult Ironman events and not for the faint-hearted, all in the name of fundraising. The event will take place in September and includes a 2.4 mile sea swim, 112 mile hill bike ride, followed by a marathon to finish.

“I am hoping that the severity of the event will help people dig deep for sponsorship,” Mr Wilkes added. “My training started in December and is already in excess of 12 hours a week. It’s part of our commitment to do more and be more involved.”

QualitySolicitors Davisons will be also hosting a series of fundraising events throughout the year, including public quiz nights and internal events, in the hope to raise £5,000 for Bowel Cancer UK and Beating Bowel Cancer. The main public event will be a summer gala, with sponsorship currently being sought by local businesses and well-doers.
