Probate fee increase

Users of the Probate Registration service have been hit with an increase of 76% as the Government have brought in a flat fee.

Previously the fee was split depending on if you were a Solicitor or a member of the public, it being £155 or £215 respectively.

The increase has been set up to fund the digital probate service that is now in place, with the aim of reducing wait times (which increased dramatically during lockdown), allowing for fewer administrative errors and helping ensure a smoother process for those applying.

If you feel you will struggle with this increased fee, you can apply for help through the Help With Fees scheme, which you can find on the government website.

It is important to note that the fee is non payable if the value of the estate is under £5000.
