The Coroner won’t let the funeral take place – why is that?

When a suspicious death occurs, the Coroner in effect takes control of the body of the person who has died. Part of the role of the Coroner is to ensure that before the funeral takes place anyone who might be blamed for causing the death is happy that a fair medical examination has taken place.

In some situations a funeral can be further delayed by a second examination if there are issues relating to the original examination.
