Visits to care homes in Birmingham banned as coronavirus infection rate rises

Last week, Dr Justin Varney, Public Health Director for Birmingham wrote to care homes advising an immediate stop to all “non-essential” visits.

The guidance was issued in light of the increase of cases in the community as well as a small increase in the number of cases amongst care home staff.  Dr Varney said Birmingham currently had a rate of about 29 cases per 100,000 people.

Whilst it is essential the most vulnerable in our society are protected, many families and residents are facing the emotional toll of not being able to see their loved ones.
