It is with huge regret we announce the passing of Geoffrey Morris

Posted on November 18, 2025

It is with great regret that we share the news of the passing of Geoffrey Morris, at the age of 97.

Geoff was the founder of Geoffrey Morris and Ashton in 1969, having previously worked at Hopley Pierce and Bird. He established the firm in the same King street building we remain today, alongside his partner at the time, Barry Ashton — giving us the name “GMA”.

Geoff was a hugely respected solicitor: tenacious, determined, and an exceptionally capable businessman.

Beyond his legal career, Geoff was a significant figure in the history of Wrexham Football Club. He served as Vice Chairman during what many would regard as the club’s golden era in the 1970s and early 1980s — a period that saw promotions and memorable quarter-final runs in the FA Cup, League Cup, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup. Geoff personally negotiated player transfers and also represented the FA of Wales and he continued to follow Wrexham’s results with enthusiasm throughout his life.

His influence on the legal profession and this practice, and on many of us individually, is lasting.

Geoff’s funeral will take place on 1st December @ 15:00 at the Pentybychan crematorium

Posted on November 12, 2025

Many people mistakenly believe that living together for a long time creates a ‘common law marriage,’ granting the same legal rights as a married couple over each other's property and assets. However, under UK law, this is not the case. Legal rights over property and assets only arise if you marry or enter into a civil partnership.
