We're pleased to report that QS Barwells' Sophie Maloney received not one, but two awards at the prestigious Women in Business awards held at the Cavendish hotel on Friday evening.
Sophie received awards for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Community’ and a ‘Reader’s Award’. The awards recognise Sophie’s hard work, dedication and achievement in business and her tireless efforts helping several local community groups and charities. The reader’s choice award is voted for by peers in the business community as well as the community at large and shows the wide reaching positive impact she has had.
QualitySolicitors Barwells have praised their Legal Manager for successfully completing this year’s South Coast Challenge. Ria Emin who is based in the Seaford branch took on the trek as part of the ‘Barnardo’s Bucket List Challenge’ that sees participants challenged in to doing an activity or feat in order to raise money for the children’s charity. The South Coast Challenge saw Ria walk the 36 miles in just over 12 hours, starting in Princes Park in Eastbourne and ending in Hove Park. So far she has raised £480 for Barnardo’s. Ria said; “I can easily say that this was the most challenging thing I have ever done both physically and mentally. It was such a relief to reach the end but I’m so glad I made it. My poor legs and feet may have taken a while to recover but it was definitely worth it.” Lauren Chambers, Partner at QualitySolictors Barwells, added; “We are very proud of what Ria has achieved and in name of a great charity. We are looking in to ways of following in Ria’s footsteps and doing more charitable work and implore our local community to get involved in challenges and events themselves.” Donations can be made via: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/RiaandSarah
QualitySolicitors Barwells are delighted to announce that one of our employees has been announced as a finalist in the East Sussex Women in Business Awards. Sophie Maloney, a Private Client Practitioner based at our Hailsham branch, was shortlisted for the Contribution to the Community Award, which acknowledges those who have made a direct difference to their immediate and wider Sussex community. In law Sophie specialises in Wills and Probate. However, outside of work she is a registered Dementia Friend with the Alzheimer’s Society as well as a keen supporter of local charities. She is also actively involved with St Wilfrid’s Hospice, both in and out of work where she tries to take part in as many events as she can to raise money for the Samaritans. Sophie has also joined forces with the Hailsham Age Concern centre, offering a monthly visit whereby staff and visitors can ask her question regarding Barwells legal affairs. She’s also involved with promoting the Centre and encouraging the local community to join in with the various activities. Lauren Chambers, a Partner at Barwells, said; “We are all incredibly happy that Sophie has been nominated for this year’s East Sussex Women in Business Awards. She is a hard-working individual, both in her day job but also in the charity work she does. It’s great to see her recognised for the amount she does for our local community.” “Of course, everyone at the firm has their fingers crossed that she wins but either way we are still very proud of her.” The ceremony will take place on the 15th of September at the Cavendish Hotel, Eastbourne.
Barwells has once again competed against other local law firms and businesses for the prestigious Ghulam Hussain Cup in the annual volleyball tournament. Looking to better last year’s 2nd place performance, the ‘Barwells Bears’ won all five of their group games, though unfortunately crashed out in the quarter finals losing by only a few points. Highlights included a Haka style chant courtesy of Stuart Cotter (demonstrations of which can be given on request), a fantastic BBQ that the seagull community enjoyed immensely, and some impressive points scored by the team. All in all, a valiant effort from all those that took part!
