Christine and Jodie: Running the Extra Mile for Charity

On Sunday 26th May 2024, Christine Austin and Jodie Perkins will be taking to the streets of Exeter to take part in The Great West Run in aid of the Step One charity. Dunn & Baker Solicitors are delighted to be supporting Christine and Jodie in this fantastic event for such a wonderful cause.

THE RUN
The Great West Run takes place annually across Exeter, starting at the Exeter Arena and offering 3 race options; half marathon, 10k, and the Moki Community Mile. Christine and Jodie will both be taking part in the half marathon which consists of running 13.1 miles (or 21 kilometres) across the city – a feat that will be a first for them both.

THE CHARITY
Christine and Jodie will be raising money for the Step One charity (formerly St Loye’s Foundation) which offers mental health support and recovery services to individuals cross Devon. The money that they raise will go towards funding this much-needed service, allowing the charity to support and positively impact the lives of those who are struggling with their mental health and/or hidden disabilities.

THE RUNNERS
Christine and Jodie are based in our Exeter office and are part of the Private Client team, a department which offers services such as Will writing, creating and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney, estate administration, and the creation and registration of Trusts.

Having joined the Dunn & Baker team in 2023, Christine works as a full-time Private Client Executive, assisting her clients during what can be a very difficult time with a ‘down to earth’, friendly and empathic nature.

Ahead of the run, Christine has said ‘I have always wanted to do a run like this one but have never previously been committed enough. The Step One charity does great work and mental health is very close to my heart – raising awareness of these issues helps to promote knowledge and acceptance. I believe a lot of people will need help at some point in their lives. The Exeter Great West Run - half marathon is a big ask but I am in training and aim to at least get over the finish line on Sunday 26th May 2024. Thanks to everyone for your support!’

Jodie Perkins (left)
Jodie was welcomed to Dunn & Baker in 2022 and, having started her career on reception, now works as a Legal Secretary within Private Client department, assisting the team in their work and helping to support clients during their matter.

When asked about the upcoming run, Jodie has said ‘Whilst I enjoy running regularly, I have not taken part in a half marathon or an event like this before. I feel taking part in the Great West Run and fundraising for the Step One Charity is really putting purpose behind the running for me! I am aware of the amazing work this charity does and fully support their cause. People are becoming more aware of mental health problems which should hopefully help to dispel the out-dated attitudes towards mental health issues. Any support would be so gratefully appreciated. Thank you to all, Jodie!’
