High Court Judge Claims Many Couples Regret Rushing Into Divorce

Judge suggest that too many couples rush into divorce.

There are many people for which there is no solution but to enlist the help of a divorce solicitor in Cheshire and carry out a formal separation.

However, one high court judge has stated that too many couples rush into divorcing, some of whom will regret their decision in a few years’ time.

Family judge Sir Paul Coleridge was speaking to BBC Two’s Victoria Derbyshire programme about the effects of a family breakdown.

He said: “Of course there are cases where divorce is inevitable … But it has been obvious to me that, by and large, a significant proportion of people who separate wish they had not five years down the line.”

Sir Paul retired from the High Court bench after more than 40 years of handling divorce cases in the courts and has since set up the Marriage Foundation, which aims to promote long-lasting relationships.

The organisation recently found celebrity couples are more likely to divorce than non-famous people. Research revealed the celebrity divorce rate over 14 years of marriage is 50 per cent, which is double the UK average at 26 per cent.

Among the celebrities with the shortest marriages are Kim Kardashian, who filed for divorce from her former husband Kris Humphries after just 72 days, Britney Spears and Jason Alexander who annulled their marriage after 55 hours, and Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie-Presley who lasted only 108 days before separating.

For some couples who have tried various ways to try and stay together, separation or divorce may nevertheless still be the best thing for their family and here  at  QualitySolicitors, we have the right expertise in negotiation, mediation and court proceedings to guide and advise you through the process.
