Newly Qualified Solicitor | Court of Protection

This is an exciting opportunity for a newly qualified solicitor to join the Property and Finance Court of Protection team at a well-established legal firm with a strong reputation in Warwickshire and beyond.

 

About the role:

Key tasks will include:

  • Taking client instructions and providing legal advice and assistance including liaising with Clients and other relevant parties in person and by telephone in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the Company’s standards for Client care.
  • Running a caseload of Court of Protection Property and Finance matters in accordance with the Quality Procedures Manual and SRA Code.
  • Assisting with applications to the court of protection for the appointment of professional and lay deputy, new trustee application, statutory wills, and statutory gift applications.
  • Responsible for daily financial administration on matters including but not limited to, obtaining capacity reports, assisting with care funding issues, making care arrangements, referring continuing healthcare queries to our in house clinical advisor, applying for and reviewing entitlement to benefits, managing personal budgets, liaising with financial advisors and discussing investment recommendations with Deputies, Trustees and other professionals as necessary, preparation of annual Deputy reports to the Office of the Public Guardian,  preparing tax returns, arranging property insurance, dealing with purchase and sale of properties and dealing with any other property and finance matters required.
  • Maintaining up-to-date time recording and diary records
  • Ensuring the confidentiality of the Company’s, Client’s and third-party documentation and information, as appropriate.
  • Undertaking legal research and maintaining legal knowledge through training.
  • Contributing to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Contributing to the maintenance and improvement of office procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with Equality and Diversity Policy.
  • Where applicable, the supervision of staff.
  • Any other duties which from time to time are required by the Company

About you:

Essential:

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines when necessary, acting with initiative.
  • Team player but also approachable and empathetic as often this area of work can be distressing for family members of the client.
  • Personable, calm, and caring nature with excellent client care and communication skills.
  • Confidentiality and other ethical requirements.
  • Background and understanding of area of law undertaken.
  • Previous experience of working in a busy work environment with competing priorities.

Desirable:

  • Computer literate
  • Driving licence
  • Knowledge of Company’s case management software Tikit(Advanced)tfb
  • Previous experience as a Fee Earner in the Court of Protection
