Developing my Career at Hopleys GMA - Wiktoria Kardas

Qualifying as a solicitor is a significant milestone, and I am happy to have reached this point at Hopleys GMA Solicitors. My journey with the firm has been both rewarding and formative, providing me with the opportunity to grow professionally while developing the practical skills needed to progress in my legal career.

Starting my legal career

I joined Hopleys GMA Solicitors as a Paralegal in the Wills and Probate department, a role which gave me my first real insight into working in private practice. From the beginning, I was welcomed into a supportive team and entrusted with meaningful responsibilities. This early exposure allowed me to build a solid foundation in client care, file management, and the practical application of legal principles.

Working as a paralegal allowed me to put into practice much of the knowledge I had gained during my Legal Practice Course. Concepts that had previously been theoretical became tangible as I assisted with estate administration, drafting documents, and liaising with clients during what can often be sensitive and emotional times.

Training to be a solicitor

Following my time as a paralegal, I progressed to a Training Contract with the firm, which marked the next stage of my development. During my training, I was given the opportunity to further develop the skills I had already begun to build, while also gaining broader exposure to the realities of working as a solicitor. The transition from paralegal to trainee felt like a natural progression.

Throughout my training, I continued to develop the practical skills introduced during my LPC, including legal research, drafting, time management, and client interaction. Being able to develop these skills in a real working environment was invaluable, and it reinforced the importance of learning through experience. I was encouraged to take responsibility for my work while believing that guidance and supervision were always available when needed.

The journey to qualification has not been without its challenges. However, these challenges played a crucial role in my development, helping me to build confidence in my abilities and prepare for the responsibilities of qualification. Looking back, each challenge has been worthwhile and has contributed to my growth as a legal professional.

A particularly rewarding aspect of my development has been the opportunity to begin building my own client base. Building client relationships, managing matters from instruction through to conclusion, and becoming a trusted point of contact has been fulfilling. Receiving positive feedback from clients has been significant for me, providing reassurance that the advice and support I offer genuinely makes a difference.

Now, as a newly qualified solicitor, I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given and the experience I have gained along the way. My journey from paralegal to trainee and ultimately to qualification has been both challenging and rewarding, and it has confirmed my decision to pursue a career in law.

I look forward to continuing my career at Hopleys GMA Solicitors and further developing my skills as a solicitor, while continuing to provide a high standard of service to our clients.
