Help for First Time Buyers

First Time Buyers are still eligible for Stamp Duty relief on purchases up to £300,000. Therefore, the purchase of a property with a value of up to £300,000 would result in absolutely no Stamp Duty being paid. If a First Time Buyer purchases a property between £300,000 and £500,000 there is no Stamp Duty to be paid on the first £300,000 however, they will have to pay the standard 5% on the remaining amount.

First Time Buyers can also elect to take advantage of this exemption on Shared Equity purchases which would mean a First Time Buyer could elect to pay stamp duty on the full market value of the Property at the time of purchase (irrespective of the value of the share being purchased by the First Time Buyer) and no further Stamp Duty would be payable as and when further shares in the property are purchased.  If the open market value was £300,000 or less no stamp duty would be payable.
