My child doesn’t have a statement of special educational needs. Can I request one?

Yes. If you are worried about your child’s development, you can ask for an assessment. The Local Education Authority (LEA) must provide this, unless your child has already been assessed within the last six months, or the LEA can explain why an assessment is not required.

Following the assessment, your child may be given a statement of special educational needs which will provide information about your child’s needs and explain what services the LEA must provide for them.
