The Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill published today will help SMEs reduce workplace disputes by cutting regulatory red tape, according to QualitySolicitors, the UK’s fastest growing legal brand.

Chief Executive of QualitySolicitors Craig Holt says,

“We spoke to 400 solicitors around the country and found that the biggest fear for two thirds (63%) of small and medium sized businesses seeking legal advice in the UK is dealing with the dismissal of under-performing employees.

“The changes put forward by this Bill will help SMEs and this approach will provide a layer of protection and opportunity for employers to resolve disputes where the cost of employment tribunal proceedings can have serious consequences for the business. The proposals should ultimately reduce the amount of time and money currently spent on employment tribunals.

“However it is vital that the introduction of fees for initiating tribunal proceedings, which will reduce the number of speculative claimants, doesn’t deter genuine cases. To counter this concern, the Government is introducing increased penalties for businesses that breach employment laws. With our research finding that 85% of SMEs don’t understand their legal requirements, the Government must ensure that these changes are properly communicated to employees and SMEs.”
