With the recent news of increases in costs for areas such as Probate Fees, it’s refreshing to read that the Public Guardian (Fees etc.)(Amendment) Regulations 2017 are reducing the fees for registering Powers of Attorney.
When can a couple get divorced? That was the issue before a divorce court recently in a case which attracted publicity because the circumstances were so unusual. The couple were also part of the “silver divorcers” about which we have written in recent weeks.
Recently, Judy attended an NHS Continuing Healthcare assessment. It was a full multi-disciplinary meeting with the participants involved determining whether or not the client would meet the eligibility criteria for NHS continuing healthcare funding.
Perhaps soon there will be some academic research by a sociology department at a distinguished university to ascertain why it is that so many more couples are divorcing later in life. Traditionally, it would be expected that, by that age, they would be preparing to settle down for the “golden age” of retirement.
When someone dies, a Grant of Representation is required from the Court to enable personal representatives to administer the estate. This document is required by banks/building societies etc. to close accounts and release funds. Currently the fee for this is £155 where a solicitor makes the application and £215 for a personal application.
