Young High Sheriff for The Day | Winner announced!

We were delighted to have been asked to sponsor and support a brand-new competition for local Year 10 – 13 students at Myton School, Warwick.

Launched in October, the competition gave one student the chance to become ‘Young High Sheriff of Warwickshire’ for the day. Participants had to produce a 3-minute video clip or write a 500-word essay, or a 200-word poem on why they wanted to be Young High Sheriff for the day. The entries were phenomenal, it was a tough decision to whittle it down to just one!

Judged by our very own Tim Ollerenshaw, alongside Graham Sutherland (retired Police Inspector, local author, past Town Crier, owner of Knowle Books) and Simon Jones (recently retired Deputy Head of Myton School) a decision was finally made….

A massive congratulations to a very deserving winner:..  Aaron Dhesi, who will be accompanying the High Sherrif for the day, helping her to undertake their official duties as well as attending other activities which will be tailored to a future career/ academic interests.

Runners up: Toby Odling and On Tai Yeung

Highly Commended: Amanda Tsang, Jaythen Gill, Shaun Aranha, Jess Ames and Callum Ferry

“It was so brilliant to see the amount of interest shown in this competition. Warwick is so full of history, and we are so lucky to have this right on our doorstep. Many aspects of Warwick and Warwickshire’s history go unnoticed. We often take this for granted, so it has been a wonderful opportunity for the younger generation to delve deep into a unique part of Warwick’s history. A massive well done to all the students who took the time to enter the competition, we really enjoyed digesting all the entries"  Tim Ollerenshaw | Director and Head of Business, Litigation and Sport

Attending last week's Award Ceremony, held at the iconic Old Shire Hall Building was the perfect way to celebrate all of the students hardwork. The winner was announced and joined the High Sheriff herself on stage, to collect his £250 cash prize and put on his 'Young High Sheriff' embroidered robe. All of the runners up, highly commended and finalists were presented with a certifcate for their outstanding efforts.

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part, helped organise and supported the event to make it such a success.
