If my child’s injury claim is successful, will we receive the compensation money straightaway?

No, any settlement money will be paid into the Court of Protection where it will be invested and accrue interest until the child reaches the age of 18. However, in certain circumstances where the child requires some, or all, of the settlement money for particular needs, such as health care requirements or educational needs, then a request can be made to the court. Provided that the court is satisfied that the money is for the use of the child and will not be wasted, then approval is likely to be given.
