• Contractual control agreements – new duty to register from April 2027

  If you are piecing together a development site, you will probably enter into an option or other agreement which gives you a right to acquire land in the future or to direct the owner to transfer it to a third party you nominate. The Government is putting in place a system to capture information about these agreements (which it calls ‘contractual control agreements’) on a new public register. This means that from 6 April 2027, you will have to provide details of any agreements like this you enter into for the purpose of your business, and must get a property lawyer to submit them on your behalf.
