    Following the announcement made by Philip Hammond in the November 2017 Budget, Stamp Duty has been abolished for first time buyers on properties up to £300,000 and Stamp Duty is waived for first time buyers on the first £300,000 of properties up to £500,000. There is no relief granted for properties over £500,000.

    From early 2018, a loophole which has enabled parents to avoid paying child maintenance is to be closed. Currently, the Child Maintenance Service (CMS) is only able to seize money from a bank account if it is held solely by the paying parent. This means that any paying parent who wants to avoid paying child maintenance can do so by holding their money in a joint account with another person.

    The simple answer is yes, if you are prepared to wait at least 2 years and your ex-partner agrees to the divorce or 5 years if they don’t agree. However, if you want an immediate divorce then, as the law currently stands, you will have to attribute some blame or fault on the part of your ex-partner.
