Is there anything I should prepare before contacting you?

There is nothing formal you need to do – as a general rule there are usually six key issues you should think about:

  1. Specific ‘gift list’ - the full names, addresses, dates of birth and details of the ‘gift’ (i.e. an item or a sum of money) you want to leave to people in your Will
  2. Charity – if you would like to make a gift to a charity you will need to double check the name and address
  3. Everything else - after your specific gifts what is the full name, address and date of birth of those you would like to receive everything else i.e. your partner or your children
  4. Children under 18 – you need to decide who you would like to appoint as guardian to your children if both parents were to die
  5. Your funeral wishes - your preference to burial or cremation and any religious requirements
  6. Legal responsibility for enforcing your Will – who is this? A friend or relative or would you like your solicitor to fulfil this role
