Will a living will recording advance decisions be binding on doctors?

In England and Wales living wills are not legally binding.

However health professionals do have an obligation to take them into account when deciding what what medical treatment to provide you with - and because they must do this, it is more likely you will receive the treatment you would wish for.

It is helpful if friends and relatives know you have made a living will - and what it says - as well as your family doctor and/or any specialists that are treating you. This ensures your living will is placed with your medical records for future reference.
