John is head of our Commercial Property Department. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1977 and is highly experienced in commercial property law. He joined Quality Solicitors Burton and Co because he recognised that we are an ambitious firm who combine traditional values with modern customer service and he admires that ethos.

Development and Construction Projects

John has an excellent knowledge of landowner property developments and associated construction issues and deals on a regular basis amongst other matters with site acquisition and disposals, options, overage agreements, joint ventures, collaboration agreements, construction leases, forward lease agreements  and financing. As a result of his many years experience he is able to structure transactions to avoid the pitfalls often associated with the development of land.

Rural and Agricultural Property

As part of his work John has dealt with many farm acquisitions, disposals, partitioning and the individual purchasing and sales of parcels of agricultural land. He advises on Agricultural Holding Act tenancies and Farm Business Tenancies. He also advises on and has experience of mining leases, pipeline leases, underground gas storage leases, communication masts and renewable energy schemes. Linked in with his development work he has assisted agricultural land owners to develop land and farm buildings. John also works closely with our private client department to ensure that farmers and their families get the best possible advice on inheritance planning.

Business Property

Amongst other transactions John deals with commercial freehold and leasehold properties and the acquisition and sales of businesses. As a result of those dealings he is accustomed to working with accountants, estate agents, surveyors bank managers and other commercial lenders to enable the dealings to be progressed efficiently and in a manner beneficial to the client.

John is a Member of the Country Land and Business Association (CLA).
