Can I ask for reduced hours at work when pregnant?

When you tell your employer you’re pregnant, they have an obligation to risk assess your working conditions to ensure there’s no potential harm to you or your baby. These risks can include long working hours, and measures can be put in place depending on your individual circumstances – you may be asked to work fewer or different hours.

If you feel you’re at risk, or you’re simply struggling, and your employer disagrees, you should speak with your health and safety or union representative. Failing this, speak to your doctor, who can confirm that measures should be put in place for medical reasons.
