Do you have to work notice when made redundant?

You’re entitled to a notice period when being made redundant, equating to at least one week for employment up to two years, and one week thereafter for each full year of employment, up to a maximum of 12 weeks depending on your length of service.

As well as statutory redundancy pay, your employer should also pay you either throughout your notice period or in lieu of notice depending on your circumstances and contract. Alternatively, you can be placed on ‘garden leave’, whereby you still receive your salary and benefits throughout your notice period, but are required to not come in to work.
